Avoid Overeating | Chew Slowly
Healthy Eating Habit – Chew Slowly
First off it gives your body an opportunity to register that it is full. It takes time for your brain to realize that you have had enough. If you inhale your food you will still feel hungry and end up eating a lot more than you should.
Another advantage of chewing slowly is that your body doesn’t have to work as hard to digest your food. Digestion begins with chewing and it will help reduce many stomach problems.
Chewing slowly will also reduce mindless eating. Have you ever sat down to eat with friends and family and finish your meal long before they do? Situations like this can cause you to “pick” at your plate or food at the table. Chewing slowly will keep mindless eating in check.
Some tricks to help you chew slowly include: chewing 30 times per bite, putting your fork down after each bite and taking a sip of your drink between bites.
Chew your food slowly. You will be amazed at how much better you feel when you take the time to really enjoy your meal.
